In the media and in policy, when British politicians talk about the family, they almost always talk about ‘hard working families’.

Professor Katherine Runswick-Cole (The School of Education and iHuman, The University of Sheffield) was invited to deliver a keynote presentation at the Nordic Network of Disability Research Conference in Copenhagen on 9th May, 2019.

Katherine’s presentation, “The trouble with hard working families in neoliberal-ableist times”, examined what it means to be a ‘hard working family’ and how thinking about disability might help to expose and challenge some of the underlying assumptions in policy about what makes a ‘good family’.
